COMMUNITY CONNECTION - May Article, 2011 - S. Peeples
As summer approaches, many prepare for vacation. Getting away to rest and relax from the busyness of the first half of the year. Enjoying a much needed break from school / college and all the activities that come along with academics. Taking a break from work.
Vacation is a good thing. Jesus Himself often times retreated to the mountains or a solitude place in order to spend quality time with His Heavenly Father and receive spiritual refreshment. There lies the number one element of one’s vacation. If you really desire to have a super vacation, make sure you take Jesus with you! Please don’t forget Him! We have all had those vacations where we come back far more tired than we were before our departure. “Vacation” literally wore us out. It was a week of busy activity and no rest or relaxation. Make sure you schedule in some time to recoup from the busyness of life and restore/recharge the physical and spiritual batteries.
While on vacation, I enjoy attending a church in the area where we are. After all, I never get to go to another church (that wouldn’t be good for the pastor to miss his own church service because he’s visiting another church)! So, “having the day off” my family and I often times will attend church on vacation and receive many blessings that come along with spiritual refreshment. On that given Sunday, I don’t have the responsibility to lead in worship, and therefore can absorb Biblical teaching, singing and fellowship from others. In doing so, I receive refreshment.
So, have a good time on your vacation. Enjoy whatever it is you’re going to do. However, don’t’ forget Jesus! Gather your family for brief devotions, discuss spiritual matters as you go, and hey.... go to church (even on vacation)! Remember the model of our Lord, in Matthew 14:23, “And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain apart to pray. Now when evening was come, He was there alone.” I can only imagine what kind of retreat and spiritual refreshment He had!
I would also like to extend a cordial invitation for you to worship with us this Sunday. If you don’t already have a church home, know that Roopville Road is “A Place For YOU To Call Home!” I would love to have the opportunity to personally meet you this Sunday. Know that we are here to minister to you in any way.
