Backpacking pre-thoughts

Often times the Lord has a tendency to stretch us....taking us out of our comfort zone. I remember the very first mission trip I took back in 1996. It was my first time outside the borders of the United States of America. I will never forget the culture shock upon arriving in a third world country. That culture shock intensified when we traveled almost another ten or so hours from the place we landed. Upon arriving in a rather remote village in Honduras, the team of fifteen split up into three teams of five and we then went in three different ways to spend the week accordingly. So, my culture shock continued to intensify. I will never forget being dropped off in an even further remote village with no electricity or running water. It was rather dusky and time to eat and here we were in the middle of nowhere being the only Americans to be seen. As the van drove off, leaving us "stranded" for the week, with absolutely no outside communication to the world, my culture shock rose to an all time high! However, as the mission progressed throughout the week, myself and the four others became somewhat use to our environment. It was nice to not have televisions, phones, newspapers....those modern means of communication was then seen as major distractions in my life. I will never forget the culture shock I received upon my return. Going back in time at last a hundred years, and then coming forward back into modern culture was shocking as well.
I say all that to say and reminisce somewhat, because the Lord is about to stretch me once again! After having done short-mission work for over thirteen years Lord willing, I will embark on a mission that I have never explored. Myself and seven others will be on a back-pack mission to Delecius, a remote village that will take several hiking hours to get to. The team covets your prayers..... details at 11'....... in my next blog, I’ll share what happened.......
